Having a background in Art and Advertising and having been painting and
collecting miniature figurines for 40+ years, I have watched the "Hobby"
grow from the first plastics and metals to the amazing sculpts of the
present day. I have had miniatures ever since my father gave me my first
set of figures in the 1960's. I have seen plastic figures take a back seat to metals in the 70' and 80's
until the improvement of the medium with Games Workshop fantasy and science
fiction miniatures in the 90's along with Italieri and Zvesda in Historical.
These have been followed in the Historical periods by the amazing Perry's,
Warlord Games & Victrix ranges. Plastics now are on a par with metals in
terms of detail and conversion possibilities. The efforts of Forgeworld and others in the use of resins have added another
dimension to figures, both in terms of crispness and variety of subjects.
In metal I collect and paint Old Glory, Crusader, Foundry, Games Workshop,
Gripping Beast, Bicorne, Pegaso, Front Rank, Battle Honours, Helion and
Company, and AB to name just a few. As for my own preference I have only one, if it's a great sculpt I want to
paint it whether it's metal or plastic or resin, historical or fantasy or
science fiction, 15mm to 120mm and any size in between.
This is probably why I have so many unpainted figures, which at last count
were in excess of 25,000 pieces.
On the other hand I also have several thousand painted pieces in my 15mm
Napoleonic collection alone.
A number of people ask me why I sell my figures after painting them, why I'm
not more attached to them, the short answer for me is part of the excitement
of my hobby is having someone buy one of my painted pieces.
It is an amazing rush to know my work is not only appreciated by my family
and friends but by others as well, and that they are willing to collect some
of my work and pay for it.Selling painted figures is part of what makes me tick.
I hope you enjoy viewing my modest efforts and will continue to come back
and visit as new pieces are added.
